Poor design - stay away

Poor design that leads to water leaks from crisper under belly. Repeated ice formation due to blockage. My home has culligan filtered water so slime Build up blocking the water is poor excuse. Repeated ice formation under the crisper led to water leaks. It damaged expensive wood flooring in my kitchen. Every time I had to shell our 215 USD which is insane, .the water drainage is not designed properly. asking consumers to fix a faulty design is completely wrong.

Don't purchase! Average life span is 3-5 years not 9+ yrs as advertised. I would like to believe a $3,000.00 refrigerator should be expected to last longer than 4 years before requiring a $1,600 plus repair. Issues are sealed system problems (losing Freon) & Inverter technology.
As with many other reviews on this site we fell in love with the looks of this product. Only to find out we were suckered by Whirlpool into buying a repairman's cash cow dream. I can say only one good thing about this product...Whirlpool was smart when they only offered only a 1 year warranty.

My husband and I updated ALL of the appliances in our house to stainless steel and purchased this fridge. We have had nothing but problems with this fridge since we bought it. Within a few months, the ice maker went out. We had a service tech come out several times before he got it fixed and right. It was the biggest hassle with a tech that was clueless. Now here we are again with another broken ice maker and this fridge isn't very old at all. For the price we paid, we expected a nice appliance. However, we have been nothing but unsatisfied and will not buy Whirlpool products in the future. Whirlpool, let's make this right.

I bought this fridge, along with a stove, dishwasher and microwave as a set. A month after the warranty ended compressor and condenser broke. Zero help from Whirlpool. You would think something this expensive would be built to last. Need a whole new refrigerator because the parts to fix it are more than a new one would cost. Definitely will not be buying another appliance from Whirlpool.

My wife and I bought this appliance 2.5 years ago. We paid $2,375 for it. In that time, we've had repairmen out to repair issues with it 4 times. Whirlpool will only warranty their product for 1 year. I called them anyway to try to get resolution, as this last service call said it was going to be around $667 to fix. But they said because it was out of warranty, they would not repair it. Also, they try to up-sell you on an extended warranty after you purchase the product. Why would they need you to buy an "extended" warranty? Because they know that it is not a very good product, and it will be breaking down soon after you buy it. We had the first major issue with this product 5 months after we bought it. I honestly think we got a "lemon", but Whirlpool will not do anything about it. After spending $2,375 on an appliance, it shouldn't have this many problems in 2.5 years. Bottom Line: In my opinion, hey have terrible products and terrible customer service. Buy an Electrolux product. It is far superior to Whirlpool.

After Year Three, Nothing But Problems
Nobes002
8/13/2019
Purchased this from Costco and it worked fine for 3 years. After that, the ice maker stopped working. The freezer keeps freezing up and I had to replace the defrost sensor, thermostat, and evaporator fan motor. It still keeps freezing up and now it looks like I'll have to replace the master control board, according to my appliance repair technician. A 4 year old refrigerator SHOULD NOT have these problems. The door gasket for one of the refrigerator doors is also torn and will need to be replaced. I paid approximately $1,600 for this refrigerator and expect a much higher quality of product for this price. It is unlikely that I will purchase another Whirlpool product.

Problems after warranty expired
Mama GG
5/28/2019
A month after the manufacture warranty expired I started having issues with ice buildup on the seal of the freezer. Then the fan from the freezer started to sound loud and not good. I don't know why I did but I took out the ice tray and it stopped. That was a temporary fix. Now I get ice build up and I constantly have to break the icicles on the freezer seal. The refrigerator is now 2 1/2 years old and the problem has gotten way worse. Currently I am attempting to clean it and have found water (pool of water) at the base of the middle door. I also noticed water at the bottom of the freezer too. I did not buy an extended warranty because it was so expensive for just 2 years.
From what I have read from part reviews, this is a major problem. Also, it dings very easy. :(

I regret the purchase of this refrigerator
Calvert
5/20/2019
It looked nice in the showroom and some nice features. It seemed like the refrigerator for me until I purchased it and lived with it for a year. Aside from the pitiful icemaker, which produces about 4 cups of ice per day, the appliance functioned for a little over 12 months. in month 13 I began to notice that liquids were not as cool as they should be. The problem progressed to the point that food began to spoil. I called a local appliance repair firm. The problem was diagnosed ("frozen evaporator") and supposedly fixed. It wasn't. Additional service calls and many regular manual defrostings later I'm still drinking semi cool beverages and throwing away food. I have read other reviews on line and this appears to be a common problem. This Whirlpool is now 19 months old and I plan to replace the appliance with another brand. My purchase of a Whirlpool fridge turned out to be an expensive waste of money.
I am fortunate to have a 17 year old fridge in my basement that was made by a different manufacturer. It allows me to keep things cold but heading to the basement every time I want a drink is inconvenient. That fridge still cools like the day it was put into service. The refrigerator that my spare replaced is still in use in a prior residence. I visit the current owners regularly and it still works great. It seems like the key to having a functioning and long lasting refrigerator is to NOT buy one manufactured by Whirlpool.

Had this model for less than two years, however last few months we have been dealing with multiple attempted repairs involving ice build up under fridge, which ultimately is leading to water on our floor under the fridge. Unfortunately a solid fridge with a major flaw. Other than this, I would give it at least 4 stars.

I purchased this refrigerator on March 23, 2015. Because it was not sealed properly by the manufacturer, it no longer works. We have paid to have two seperate technicians come to our house to verify. I am currently on the phone with Whirlpool, waiting for a member of their Care Resolution Escalated Team to come on the line. This is the third time I have been transfered. The ONLY thing I have heard thus far from Whirlpool is - "Sorry ma'am, since you didn't purchase the extended warranty there is nothing we can do. I can offer you a 1 year warranty on a new Whirlpool refrigerator."
Care Resolution Escalated Team response - this is her exact response, "At this point Whirlpool will respectfully decline offering anything because of the age of the refrigerator."
I asked to speak to someone over the Care Resolution Escalated Team. Currently on hold.
Consumer Relations Manager just came on the line and here are some of the quotes from her: "Our company is not one you need to escalate until you get what you want. Your refrigerator is outside of warranty guidelines." "I will honor the 1 year warranty offered by the Care Resolution Escalated Team if you buy another Whirlpool product." "We ask you multiple times if you would like to buy an extended warranty." "There are outlet sites you can find online to get a discounted refrigerator."
So basically what Whirlpool let me know is - too bad for me, buy another one of our products, and be sure to buy an extended warranty next time. Wow!

I have had this refrigerator less than two years now. The first incident we had was we noticed the ice started melting 2 months ago. We clean up all the water and just turned the temp down. Now the entire freezer is not working and it started with the ice melting again. I read through the reviews and it appears that this is an issue with this model. Whirlpool is not will to accept that this is a flaw with this model as it has happened to other owners too! I have bought Whirlpool before as they made good solid products but sadly not anymore! Do NOT buy this refrigerator! Whirlpool has offered to pay for parts but not diagnostics or labor! This was an expensive refrigerator and it's not even two years old! I'm not willing to pay $800.00 for Freon as another customer had to do to fix his freezer issue. Looks like a good class action law suit might be the way to go! Very sad that Whirlpool is not standing by their products!

I bought this refrigerators one year ago and we have never received a manual for it.
At first, the refrigerator was very quiet and the compressor operated for very brief periods of time. Now it seems to be going on all the time and burn significant amounts of electricity. We still do not know what " fast cool" accomplishes. We have this option off now, yet the refrigerator's fan is always running.

The good, the bad ... and the HORRIBLE!
JASGA
3/28/2019
After exhaustive (and exhausting) research, I purchased this fridge in April 2016 for over $2,300 from Lowe's. I don't believe in extended warranties because a product should last, so I didn't buy one. In this case, that was a mistake ... more on that later.
The good ... this is an extremely well organized and functional refrigerator. Obviously, much research and design effort has been put into designing for the typical family. It's my first bottom-freezer fridge and absolutely love the layout of that. We don't use much ice, so the small/slow ice maker that others note (while true) is not much of an issue for us. The bins are flexible and work well, and the digital controls throughout are intuitive. If it had continued to work as designed, it would be 5+ stars.
The bad ... I don't think it's unique to this one, but the stainless dings very easily. Also, the water filters are ridiculously expensive ... like $60 each and replace every 6 months. Assuming a fridge lasts 10 years (which it should), you're in for over $1000 on filters!?
The HORRIBLE ... a little after 2 years, we started to get constant defrosting, melting ice, water dripping out of the dispenser. Had a technician come look at it and he indicated it was leaking freon. Because this is a "sealed system", the cost to repair is over $800!?!? As you can imagine, I'm not at all pleased by that news! The technician was able to refill the freon and we got by for about another 6 months, but we're now at just shy of 3 years and the issue has recurred and won't hold freon at this time. So, I have a beautiful $2,500 (including filters and freon) device that's essentially trash unless I want to pay another $800 to fix it and hope it lasts more than 3 years this time.
I've had many Whirlpool devices in my life and this is the first catastrophic failure I've had. So, I can't really blame it on the brand. I'd suggest that, perhaps, mine was a lemon if there weren't dozens of other reviews here with the exact same issue. That leads me to believe there's a functional flaw with the refrigeration unit of this particular device ... and that is something Whirlpool should address.

We've had this Refrigerator for about 2 years. The ice maker has given us a few problems over the years, but we could always remedy the issue. Well, it has now stopped making ice entirely!! This is unacceptable! My 15 year old Fridgedair still works perfectly! Of course, this Whirlpool is out of warranty, so I'm stuck with a refrigerator that does not make ice. This appliance costs too much to have this many problems making ice.

DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR
alethea2019
1/16/2019
We bought this refrigerator in November 2015 - 1 week after it was installed, the ice machine completely failed. It required 5-6 service calls to finally get it working. Customer service was awful. The service guy suggested we try to get them to just replace the appliance bc there was obviously an issue but Whirpool refused. According to them, once they drop it off you're stuck with it no matter how good/bad it is. Refrigerators should last more than 3 years. We have had mediocre ice supply over the last three years and now the ice machine is not keeping ice frozen and we have a complete fail in the freezer. So we have to decide whether to repair this "lemon" of a refrigerator or shell out more for a new one - obviously different brand. I called Whirlpool and they were as caring as always, essentially saying it was not their problem and nothing they could do.

It's been for a few months now but when an ice maker works it makes plenty of noise. The biggest imperfection with this refrigerator is when you try to get some water with a tiny cup, you need to aim otherwise a good chance one will spill the water, since it's not calibrated exactly for small glasses

Love The Fridge
DTFL
9/26/2018
We have had this refrigerator for a year now and love it. It is the most efficient and organized refrigerator that we have ever had. It helps save on spoiled food waste because we always know where things are. The only drawback is the ice maker and it's capacity. The ice maker and ice bin is in the left door and it is very small which allowed for more interior storage capacity for other foods. If you are a family that consistently uses a lot of ice you will experience problems with it keeping up to meet demand. Our children like to make smoothies every morning so they use up a blender full of ice. The ice maker just cannot make ice fast enough, nor is the bin large enough to handle this. When the kids are gone and it's just my wife and I we don't have much of a problem. But when they are here and the weekend comes around and it's time for beverages (we live in the south), we always end up having to buy a bag of ice or two as we are frequently run out. If you have a family that frequently uses ice and this is going to be your only fridge/freezer, I would consider a model with a larger ice maker capacity. Beyond this, I highly recommend this fridge. I have read others complaining about the noise level. From our experience, we have not found it to be noisy at all. To be fair, my hearing isn't what it used to be but the only time I ever notice any sound is when the open door alarm sounds off or the ice maker dumps a fresh batch (which is very quiet).

I have had this Refrigerator less than two years and have had it serviced multiple times, and it looks like it will need it again. There is standing water/ice underneath the middle drawer all the time. If you don't wipe the water out, it will freeze and then the door won't shut. I shouldn't have these issues with a 3000.00 appliance.

We have owned this refrigerator for less than two years and the ice maker is not working. The ice in the door is also melting and leaking water inside the refrigerator and then down the front. I would figure for something that costs north of $3000 it would at least last for 10 years before things like this start happening.

Also, the fridge starting to make loud noise when it runs. Cmon! It's a $3000 dollar fridge and last lesser than 3 years?! Used to think Whirlpool has the best brand and now we avoid it at all costs. Ice dispenser extremely noisy

We bought this from Lowes. The first one lost all the lighting after 24 hours so Lowes replaced it. I'm going from a Samsung (the worst appliance I have ever owned). Every appliance I have is Whirlpool so I decided on this fridge. My biggest complaint is that the ice dispenser is EXTREMELY NOISY. Also, I think it's when it fills with water, it is also noisy. My husband says the dispenser could wake the dead. I called Whirlpool and was told they could send a repair man but if nothing is wrong I have to pay a service call. I'm very disappointed in Whirlpool. If I didn't think something were wrong I wouldn't have called. After spending close to $3000 for a fridge I can't afford a service call!
My daughter bought a GE at the same time and it doesn't have theses awful loud noises.
What has happened to customer service these days?!!

We have owned this refrigerator about 2 years. The coils are freezing up, the fridge / freezer does not keep items cold or frozen. We researched the problem online, and this refrigerator has awful reviews on consumerreports.org for the exact same problem in the same time frame.

Wish we went with a different fridge, and would not recommend to a friend.

Bought new in July 2017. First day of operation there was water dripping from the top of the interior. Service tech thought it had a faulty water valve so he changed it. Still leaked so he came back out and discovered a HOLE in the water line going to the ice maker. Should have found that when they assembled the thing. Now it's 11 months old and the fridge and the freezer will not cool at all. Two service calls so far and it's STILL not working. We have not had a fridge for two weeks now! Tech has no idea what is wrong with it, he said he plans to keep throwing parts at it until it works while we have to keep buying ice to try to save what food we can. Not a happy customer here.
